HI I WAS WONDERING IF IT WAS POSSIBLE TO PLANT ANY PLANTS UNDERNEATH A PINE TREE- I WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE OF THE SAP & THE PINE NEEDLES THAT FLOWERS WILL NOT TAKE WELL AT ALL UNDERNEATH THEM. IS THIS TRUE? BEFORE GOING OUT AND SPENDING $$$ ON PLANTS LIKE HOSTA'S AND STUFF I WANTED TO CHECK IT OUT FIRST- MAYBE I WILL JUST TRY EASY WILDFLOWERS FIRST? ANYBODY GOT ANY IDEA'S IF I CAN PLANT PLANTS THERE AND WHAT KIND? THANKS BUNCHES!!

I hope you're really lucky and these are white pines you're talking about! If so, they are very garden friendly trees and my absolute favorite tree! I have an extensive garden under white pines and it is a very thriving garden. I do suggest that you lay soaker hoses under the pine to make watering easy and efficient and then plant your plants with their roots near the hose.

You might find the following articles about pines and my garden of interest. My garden under the pines has been extended considerably since I wrote these articles but they should give you some ideas....

I have several huge yellow pines and ponderosa pines in my yard. My husband trimmed the branches quite a ways up the tree and since then, anything grows and grows well under them. Good luck

I have several huge Scotch pines. Is it possible to plant anything under them? If so, what? I am trying to use perennials as much as possible.
