Subject: flower Garden book for (3-4) Edmonton & area

I am looking for a book that mostly concentrates on Zone 3-4 which is around the Edmonton area for me. I would love to find a book that shows pictures of landscapes using flowers and shrubs. Anyone out there know of any such book? Thanks.

Hi Wendy. Patrick Lima wrote a lovely book called The Harrowsmith Perennial Garden - and he gardens on the Bruce Peninsula of Ontario, which is a darned chilly area. He has other books out as well which might be useful. Also try Jennifer Bennett - can't recall the name of her book offhand, but it's about cold country gardening too. Cheers, Jill

Hi Wendy, I live in zone 3a and there are many books that deal with gardening in our area. All Lois Holes books Books by Lesley Reynolds and Liesbeth Leatherbarrow Books by Donna Balzer

that will get you started - there are more!

Thanks Jill and Donna. Yes Donna, I find Lois Holes books good for information but I am looking for design ideas. I am not the most creative gardener and would love to look at some garden design ideas for our area. Donna we are neighbors, I live out in the Sturgeon Valley. I will have a look at the books that you both have suggested. Many thanks. Wendy

Hi Wendy, perhaps you've already checked the place out but...Wellington's is a greenhouse with a somewhat different approach. Their grounds are beautifully landscaped with established beds of the type of plants they sell. It gives you a good idea as to what goes with what. Their selection is broad, their plant descrptions are detailed. It is located out towards St.Albert (still in Edmonton) across from Leons furniture.
