How-To Tips from The Do-It-Yourself

Summer Surprise

A colorful grocery store bouquet makes a thoughtful gift on its own, but when combined with a useful watering can, it becomes a gift that keeps on giving. Divide your bouquet into the layers described on my website, http://www.flowersmadesimple.net/basics.html . Add water and floral food to the container and make a grid across the top with waterproof florist’s tape. Start with your foliage, creating somewhat of a triangle, pointing the stems toward an imaginary X in the center and removing all leaves below the water’s surface. Next insert your line flowers. This bouquet didn’t really have any, so I started with the carnations. Mass flowers are next – here it’s the daisy mums. The sunny gerbera daisies really command your attention. Finish off with filler material like statice, baby’s breath or lily grass. This simple, but cheerful arrangement will put a smile on anyone’s face!
