I am looking for a good book on container or balcony gardening...I looked last year to no avail. I wonder if one of you might have heard of a good one? I have a beautiful, large balcony in a treed yard that I would love to create a flower/veg garden on but I am a total gardening newbie and need some help!

Have you tried looking at the books listed in the 'Container and Small Space Gardening' category on the Bookshelf area on this web site?(Go to the 'Browse the Site area on the top, right side of the page and click on Bookshelf in the drop-down menu...) There's lots of choice listed there. Maybe other Forum participants will have more specific suggestions.
Do the trees in the yard shade your balcony? You might have trouble growing a lot of vegetables if it's too shady as most vegetable need lots of sun, but for flowers and foliage you would still have lots of choice. Tell us more about the light conditions on the balcony.

Here is what I use... Colourful Window boxes, by Richard Bird
Soon it will be listed on this domain. I tried the search and nothing came up.
The book provides 50 Recipes and themes...
Richard Bird has allot of great books. I would recommend them all....hint hint.. get them listed Icangarden..

I have a couple of those "Dummies" books. I have Canadian Gardening for Dummies and I love it. It has lots of helpful tips but isn't specific on just containers. When I placed my seed order from Veseys, i also ordered a little pamplet as well, it's 50 pages or so, on caontiner gardening. It was loaded with tips and info and was only $5. I just moved so it's here in a box somewhere....but when I unearth it I'll post the name and author for you. Happy Gardening!

Don't have that one Duncan, but I just got one in the door called Gardening with Containers by George Carter and it looks pretty good..it has 20 step by step projects.
Another one out of Saskatchewan, Canada is called The Joy of Planting, by Arlette Laird, a step by step guide to creative container gardening is also brand new. 101 recipes for pots and containers..
