November 12, 2000

Teresa Watkins, University of Florida's Florida Yards & Neighborhoods program coordinator for Lake, Orange and Seminole County is a recognized expert on xeriscape and creating an environmentally friendly landscape. Teresa teaches landscaping workshops for the University of Florida to educate homeowners on how to design and maintain "Florida Friendly" yards that are attractive and care-free with "earth-smart" practices.

Teresa's experience ranges from working with private and commercial garden centers, counties and municipalities, to homeowners. She consults and creates specialty landscapes using such themes as English cottage, butterfly, xeriscape and tropical gardens. Her column, 'Gardening with Soul' appears monthly in Lifestyle magazine, a Central Florida publication. A Master Gardener, landscape consultant, and garden columnist for 'GardenGuides' on the web, Teresa hosts award-winning garden shows for radio and tv. She co-hosts the weekly public tv show, "Gardener's Hotline" on WCEU, Channel 15, Daytona Beach. She is currently filming a 13-week documentary series on xeriscape for national distribution in the fall.

When she is not teaching, or digging in someone's else's backyard, she is her yard, getting her hands dirty, smelling the roses, and chasing slugs and lubber grasshoppers out of her garden beds.
